It's Potty Time!
We gave up on potty training Sarah, but she has been figuring it out! I think the 2 1/2 days really paid off. She has let me know 4 times in the past few days, and actually GONE on the POTTY! Once we get back from Utah, we will give the 3 day method another try!

Libbyisms
Here are some of my favorite things Libby has said lately:
Mom, your hair is the color of brown poopy.
Mom, you are getting as big as daddy.
(both meant as compliments. geee thanks!)
Mom, I NEED to play Carcassone! (on my iPhone with uncle Davey)
Sarah, I am sorry I hit you. Please stop hitting me first.
She is a joy and a delight. Did I mention that I have changed her outfit at least 10 times this morning? She has been in a striped dress, a witch costume, Belle costume, Ariel costume, grass skirt, tutu, Michigan cheer outfit, and of course panties only--her favorite.

Night Night...
Libby has a very vivid and active play imagination. The other day she came in and told me that "the soldiers had killed her children" (the Barbies she was playing with). But her favorite game of all is the going to bed game. Which is ironic since when it is really bed time, she doesn't like that game at all!
Creating beds for Libby, daddy, and her new doll was a snap for Libby. Daddy actually fell asleep here. Libby, of course, did not.
Creating a bed for Libby and Sarah in the shelves in the family room was also a breeze. Getting Sarah to stay in the bed was a bit tougher. Libby kept chasing her around trying to get her back in bed. (Now she knows how I feel some nights.)

Accident Prone Van
We took our van in to have the brakes done (ps, some of you read about this on facebook, but I decided I need to write about it here too, since this blog is our scrapbook/journal.) After they did the brakes they took it for a test drive to make sure it was all fixed. Two other cars got in an accident and spun into our beautiful van. Ouch. Except that as a result we didn't have to pay for the brake repair. Which turned out to be a good thing since I had to get a root canal this week. Dental insurance plan maxes are WAY TOO LOW!
Yummy Pizza
In my constant quest to get Libby to eat things, I made her a pizza in the shape of an L. Sarah got an S. Sarah ate almost the whole S. (Olives, or "fingers" first.) Libby ate about 20 pieces of pepperoni before I got the pizzas in the oven, so she ate less of hers. But, eating 20 pieces of anything, especially fatty delicious meat is a huge accomplishment, so I chalk up a victory for that meal.

Potty Training Day 2 & 2 1/2
We perservered for day 2 and into day 3. She never even once went on the potty. She started to be able to tell when she needed to go, and she started to hold it for longer (rather than going a little every few minutes) so we did make some progress. But she would sit on the potty for 1/2 hour and never let it go. So, we gave up. We were both tired of watching her and cleaning up after her. We are enjoying parenting again. We will give potty training a go again in a couple of months (like 6, or when the rash gets really bad again.)
Now I am off for an emergency root canal. Cracked tooth! Ouch.

Potty training drama
The potty training queen claims that you can potty train at 22 months. Sarah turns 22 months tomorrow. So, when we had 3 relatively free days, and I had just picked up another round of oral diaper rash medicine (to add to the topical that we use every change) we decided to go for it! (PS, this method worked great for Libby, but she was much older...)
Hmm...in retrospect we should have waited I think. Nothing but accidents yesterday. About 30, maybe more. She does hold it until she can worm away from us and then goes. She let not even a drop into the potty, despite sitting on it about 50 times.
But, the potty training queen promises that by the end of 3 days they will have it. So, I am going to keep trying and put her to the test.
My favorite quote from yesterday. As Sarah squats down on the rug and lets loose....
Daddy: "Sarah! Why don't you go in the potty?"
Sarah: "Oh dang it! I forgot."
Sarah's hair is now long enough for pig tails!
Enjoying a cucumber for lunch.

Watching the Blue Angels
When I first moved to Seattle I heard the Blue Angels practicing (they are military airplanes) for Seafair. I thought they were loud from inside my apartment just off Lake Washington. Boy are they louder when you are out watching along the lake! It was really amazing to watch them. There are 6 and they fly so close together and do fun tricks. One came over the hill from right behind us and we all jumped about a mile. Libby got a little teary and kept complaining about the noise, but it was fun to watch. The next day Libby had massive bug bites from the experience. Guess we know what to pack next year, bug repellant!

Doing the math...
I just added it up. I taught 51 classes in the month of July. Holy COW! No wonder I have been on the tired side! That is definitely a record for me! Luckily a few of those are only 1/2 hour.
Alicia's Wedding
We had a blast at my friend Alicia's wedding. She had a place with fun costumes for people to put on and take pictures. Libby and Sarah got a kick out of it! Sarah also enjoyed running up on the stage during the ceremony. After the ceremony Libby spent lots of time on the stage with some flowers "getting married."
Family Home Evening
We took a fun walk for a belated family home evening. We ended up at Baskin Robbins and enjoyed 3 of the 31 flavors. Derek got something Chocolate. I got birthday cake, thinking it was cake batter. Not my fav. The girls both got bubble gum. Pink! Pink! Pink! It was a blast.
BTW, dad you will be glad to know the pedestrian/bike bridge for the interurban trail is finally open so you won't lose the trail around 44th anymore :)

I Am A Child of God
Yesterday we sand "I Am a Child of God" for the closing hymn in sacrament meeting. Libby decided to make her musical debut. She outsang the entire congregation. It was amazing. After a week where I didn't think she was learning anything (like how to live without a binkie) it was amazing to hear her sing the most important truth I could teach her. She is learning!
Libby's Stats
We had Libby's 3 year old check up this morning. It was nice to report that she is potty trained, no longer sleeps with a binkie, and is so bright and fun. It was not all that nice to hear that she needs to come back in two months for a weight check. But, I was pretty sure that would be the story.
Weight: 27 lbs. 5%
Height: 34 1/2" (just below) 3%
Blood Pressure: 82/50
She is a healthy girl, she just needs to eat a little more, especially proteins.
We can live with that diagnosis!
