The 4th of July

Grandpa Brion passed on July 3rd, so our 4th of July felt a little more somber than usual.  Uncle Dave was in town, so I had planned a fun day.  I think we managed to have some fun and that's how Grandpa would have wanted it to be.

We put 2 hikes on our family summer 6 goals.  We got in our first one in the morning--Lake 22.  We've done this hike, a few years ago.  This was the first day that the Lake 22 trail was open for the season, and it closed a few days later.  This made it a pretty busy day on the trail.  (Not my favorite.)  But on the way up we were pretty much alone. It was the way down that was really busy.  But we were playing first letter--last letter.  So we were distracted and having fun.

It was a beautiful day!

Then we came home and grilled.  We tried something new that I want to cook for girls camp--Hot Dog Kabobs.  They turned out pretty good!  We had a fire and roasted smores too.  More of the family joined us and it was good to be together in our grief.  The original plan included 4th of July karaoke.  I'm going to file that away for next year when we hopefully are feeling more festive.

Jed is definitely taller than Grammy.

Libby gave Ben an awesome 4th of July hairdo!
