2 Weeks in Review

Time is flying by.  This week we had 4 different wrestling events--the last one being an all day tournament for the girls.  The first 3 we lost very close matches.  It was tough!  Both boys and girls lost to Edmonds Woodway (yes, the same girls team we beat just a week ago).  Then the boys lost to Shorecrest.  We needed everyone healthy and on weight, and it just didn't happen.  But Saturday was am awesome day for the girls.  While Libby didn't take 1st, she beat a girl that she lost to last year in the post season.  It was amazing. Then she lost to a senior girl who was really tough.  The girls took 2nd overall, and they were so close to taking 1st.  And that was with only 7 scoring wrestlers.  The other team had many more.  Libby and Izzy pictured below are holding the first girls wrestling trophy the girls have ever won!

I also has the SW science club come to my class on Friday.  We did some cool solutions experiments!  This was colored water and colored acetone with salt--they separate so fast and cool!

What a fun team!

This was last weekend in Raymond.  There was only one girl close to Libby's weight, but Libby beat her! I didn't go to Raymond, I hosted a baby shower, went to the temple with the youth, and went to a fun White Elephant party.

Ben passed the sacrament for the first time last week.  A very special sacrament meeting for me.

Ben also went to the temple last weekend for the first time.  It was so fun to be there with him and Sarah.  We'll hopefully get to take the whole family soon.  (Midwinter break likely).
We also spent lots of time this week preparing some fundraising stuff for SW and getting Einstein off the ground (they are now saying 6th graders can't practice with the team...boo!)

We've got some more busy wrestling weeks ahead.  Praying for an awesome post season.

Trying to get some excitement going for wrestling at the MS.  It's the first time I think I've bought a graphic--I liked this tiger in the singlet so much.

I added "wrestling" to the cool new logo that SW is using. I like it.

Ben's Ordination & Randall Visit

Thursday my parents came into town.  They came for Ben's ordination, but my mom also came to talk to my class.  It was super fun to hear her talk about publishing her book.  My class had great questions.  Derek was sick after all the insanity (he also spent several days right after Kelso helping to host the Japanese National Team).  Then Libby got sick too (and on Monday we realized she also had a skin staff infection.). But we managed to have a lovely weekend.  The spirit was awesome in Ben's ordination.  I'm so excited to see him looking forward to taking on the responsibilities of the priesthood.

We played lots of games over the weekend, trying out all the new ones we got for Christmas.  I especially loved Farkle.

The whole crew for the ordination.

I also, of course, dragged my parents to a wrestling tournament.  Libby took 2nd after coming up against a 2 time senior and state participant.  My parents are becoming professional spectators!

Ben was a little frustrated with how long we stayed at the tournament.  But we had to see Libby wrestle twice.  So he was icing his head.

Mt. Rainier was lovely on our way to University Place.

Libby with her victory.  (She had a first round bye--then got to wrestle in the finals.)

We also had a birthday lunch at Kona Kitchen and pie at the Snohomish Pie Company.  So yummy!  I was sad to send my parents home!

Scramble & the First EVER Girls DUAL at SW

We had a great scramble on Tuesday.  SW went 12-4.  Libby lost again to one of the girls she lost to at Kelso.  It's motivated her to get back to 100 lbs rather than 105.

Look at this awesome crew!

Then we also had the first ever girl's dual hosted at SW HS.

I made this invitation with some of the Kelso pics.  It was also our YW activity too--so we had a good crowd. Kristi Lin came to take some great pics of the historic event :)

Joann was the walk on DJ.  I ran the clock and Maren was...announcer extraordinaire.

Libby and Sarah sang the "Star Spangled Banner."  I accompanied.

Libby didn't have an official match, she took a forfeit for the team.  Then beat the EW 100 lbs girl in an exhibition match.

Final Score EW 21-SW 39.  (Only one SW wrestler lost--but we gave up a few forfeits.  Hopefully Sr. Captain Kiana is back on the mat soon.)

KELSO Girls Tournament

I decided to help chaperone the girls at their tournament in Kelso WA.  I didn't exactly understand what I was getting into.  It was a HUGE tournament.  750 girls.  It started on Friday afternoon/evening--wrestling going until 10:30 pm.  Ouch.  There were 12 mats in 3 different locations.  So we were running up down, all around all evening.  It was exhausting.  Libby ran into some REALLY tough competition.  She won her first, lost her 2nd.  We got "dinner" at the AM/PM and crashed at the hotel.

Saturday morning, Libby won her 3rd and lost her 4th matches.  The girls she lost to took 5th and 6th.

I waited in line for a total of like 2.5 hours for gear (once I was getting close to the front of the line and then Libby was up to wrestle and I had to abandon my spot and start over.)

I came home so exhausted.  But it was a really cool experience to see the girls working so hard and bonding.  Sarah came with us and had a great time.  Ben spent the weekend at Maren's.

I just love this group of ladies!

Rough Re-entry...

Just a quick post to say that my re-entry was tough.  I forgot my lunch the first day back at school.  Duh.  Like I've never done that.  Just didn't even make a lunch.

Then on Wed. I brought breakfast to seminary when it wasn't my day to bring breakfast.  Who does that?

Settled in on Thursday.  But then left for a wrestling tournament on Friday.  So it was a wild week.

We all survived.  But it wasn't my best week.

Happy New Year!

We started a new New Year's tradition this year--at Maren's new house in Woodinville.  We made homemade pizzas (inspired by a friend's FB post--sounded so good) and I made another batch of WRETCHED whipped chocolate garbage that was supposed to be fondue.  I threw away the chocolate fountain.  Somehow it was putting too much air into the chocolate?  Or maybe I messed up the recipe somehow again.  But whatever the reason--it was GROSS.

But the new year came anyway (at 12:00 am EASTERN :) My favorite.

I made sure to bring lots of confetti as payback for last year.  (I literally just found more of the confetti strips from last year this week.  Seriously. Ha.)

I couldn't find my list from 2022--I think Buddy ate it.  So I'm off the hook for the things I don't remember.  (One goal was Buddy training...does the fact that he ate my list mean that I failed on that?) My word for last year was LIGHT.  And one of my goals was to do a better job of Christmas lights outside.  I did that.  I wanted new bedroom lighting.  Didn't do that.  So you win some you lose some.  The joy of losing my list is that I can pretend I won a lot more than I did.  Ha.

I created a 23 for 23 list.  My word for the year is FLEX-ible.  A nod to my biggest goal of daily yoga, and leaning into my strengths.  Including lots of strength training as I keep up with my PT.  I made 2 copies, so hopefully I won't lose it this year.
